The Aprista Party (APRI) of Istalia organized a series of internal elections on 5–7 April 4199, to elect its party leader, as well as its candidates for president and parliament. The party leader, Santino Musumeci, was re-elected for a four-year term. Musumeci was also nominated as the APRI candidate for President of Istalia, while Giuliano Dini was nominated for Prime Minister of Istalia for a second time. The Aprista Party also nominated 377 candidates for the Chamber of Deputies, and 70 candidates for the Senate.

The presidential candidate of APRI was chosen directly by the party membership, using the winner-take-all system; a total of 16,584 members were elibible to vote.
