Conservative Party

History and Orgins[]

The Conservative party of the Democratic Republic of Aloria was founded in 2762 by three business people (Pauline Bernette Stephenson, Jessica Speilman and Marcus Finnaly) who each owned Lumber wood companies around Calliope in the Alorian state of Krentori. Distressed by the gradual decline of what they saw as a hugely important business to the nation they decided to form a political party and challenge the political 'status quo' of Aloria. Consequently the Conservative party (Abbreviated 'Con' for short) are convinced free market capitalists, who believe that small government and reduced regulation is necessary to protect the Alorian business community.

After two very successful elections the party obtained the largest number of seats in the Alorian parliment after the August 2767 elections and became the majority party in the states of Krentori, Ultran and Kurmal.

After a brief break in 2772, the party reformed on May 2815. On May 2819 the party obtained 328 seats in the Alorian parliament (66%) in a landslide election that led to the party gaining control of all 5 states in Aloria and all the cabinet positions in government. Admist allegations of sleaze and corruption whilst in government, and the failure of ther Conservative controlled cabinet to bring about an end to the national general strikes begun in 2823, the party suffered a landslide defeat in the May 2824 elections losing well over half their parliamentary seats and reduced to just three cabinet seats. However, despite this, the Alorian electorate returned a Conservative President for a fourth term and the Conservative party currently remains the largest party in government.

The Conservative parties traditional areas of support are Krentori, Kurmal and Ultran. The states with weakest Conservative party support are Gavonshire and Sildar.

Party Values[]

The conservative party believes in promoting a free market capitalist economy and protecting the independence of the state religious orders. Their ideology focusses on private enterprise spurring technological advances and providing a good investment for the citizens of Aloria. A fundermental value for the party is small government, limiting public spending and good morality.

The conservative party are convinced internationalists and moderate federalists who believe in strong cooperation, especially with regards to trade and investment, and giving back powers of governance to the state legislatures.

Rural areas of Aloria and small towns are the parties main power base, as well as the religious state of Ultran.

Party motto Freedom for all

Election motto Time for change

Manifesto:

Our goal is about making our country respected and secure, and helping you achieve a better; safer and more prosperous future. For we believe - strongly - that you, and not the Government, should be in charge of your life. That's what Conservatism stands for. That principle underlies all the policies we create and support. Prinicipally we are a party of aspiration.

The Conservative Party of Aloria is the party of common sense.

Common sense means strengthening the family

  • Less tax for families
  • Support for marriage
  • Freedom for headteachers and governors to run their own schools
  • Power for parents to change management of failing schools
  • Endowed universities and less onerous student loan repayments

Living safely
Common sense means having enough police to keep our streets safe and a criminal justice system that reflects our values rather than undermines them.

  • Increase police numbers
  • Free police from bureaucracy so that they can get on with policing
  • Take persistent young offenders off our streets
  • Criminals to serve the sentence given by the court
  • More rights for victims of crime

Earning a living
Common sense means less tax and regulation for people and businesses

  • Lower taxes for businesses, families, savers, pensioners and motorists
  • Public spending not to outstrip the growth of the economy
  • Cut the cost of regulation on business every year

Cutting tax for families
The task of bringing up children is made much harder when families keep less of what they earn, because the Government is taking more.

More choice and higher standards in schools

The least parents should expect from all the taxes they pay is a decent school for their children.

Our objective is to give parents choice, and headteachers freedom. These reforms will lead to schools of the sort parents want - schools with high standards, schools which have their own traditions, a distinct ethos and which wear their school uniform with pride.

Freeing our universities
Our universities used to be the best in the world. Many of them still have a formidable reputation, but they are under threat from interference by politicians and uncertainty over their funding.

Conservatives want our universities to be free to shape their own character and specialisms, competing with the world's best for students and research funding.

Time To Deliver
Conservatives have a vision of what our country can be when it is true to its own character.

We want strong families and enterprising business. We want a free and responsible society. We want to govern ourselves, confident in a stable and trusted constitution.

It's time for a Government that will deliver.

It's time to support marriage and the family; time for a war on crime; time to cut taxes and regulation; time for our schools and hospitals to benefit from choice and freedom; time to show respect to our pensioners; time for real savings not welfare dependency; time to endow our universities; time to rebuild our inner cities; time to end the crisis in the countryside.

We believe in promoting a free market capitalist economy and protecting the independence of the state religious orders. We believe in private enterprise spurring on technological advances and providing a good investment for the citizens of our country. Small government, limiting public spending and good morality is the future for our nation.

We are one nation amongst many and we believe that working with other countries, whilst safe guarding our own interests, serves the people of Aloria well.

Party Structure[]

The party is made up of party workers, both voluntary and paid, and the executive leadership. The party membership numbers 24,218 persons (as of March, 2770). The leader of the party is elected by the party membership and all the candidates who stand for the leadership must have a signed public supporter from a member of the conservative party currently serving in Aloria's parliment. As written in the party consitution regarding leadership term limits the leader of the party can only remain leader for a maximum of eight years. It is usual for the leader of the party to also stand for the presidential office.

A similar election takes place for the Deputy Leader office and is usually held at the same time.
