Narikaton and Darnussia, officially known as the Kingdom of Narikaton and Darnussia (Narik: Federale Democratische Republiek Narikaton en Darnussien; Darnussian Dundorfian: Demokratische Bundesrepublik Narikaton und Darnussien), and sometimes known as Narikaton for short, is a sovereign state in southern Artania. The nation's capital is Merenburg, located on Narikaton Island. The country has historically been divided along ethnic lines in the past, but in modern times has seen relative harmony between the two largest groups, Darnussians and Nariks.

History[]

Early Years (4330-4350)[]

The time under oversight of the Staatscommissariat of the Dorvish Military Administration had been under the sign of reconstruction and rebuilding. Narikaton and Darnussia was a partially ruined nation, large stripes of land on the mainland were devastated as well as looted. The war with the Malivian Free State left its marks on the population and the landscape. Politically the Narikatonische Verwaltungsgesellschaft dominated the course of the nation. It was under direct oversight and answered only to the State commissar of the Dorvish. Socialist Uprisings and riots have been common but were suppressed with utmost strength by the authorities in place. But experts that time predicted that the economy would even come out stronger because the corruption the dictatorial Thallerist Regime under the Thalleristische Front spread was eradicated.

Geography[]

Darnussia[]

Darnussia is comprised of one whole mainland area, split into 2 regions. The northern region, Alkavon, is mostly comprised of wetlands with dozens of rivers, often used for trade and transportation. At the northernmost part of Alkavon, along the border with Beluzia, lies a small mountain range. The capital of Alkavon is Bannerhafen, a relatively large, rustic, city. The southern region, Kozaria, is mostly comprised of hilly, dense, evergreen forests, and massive green, hilly, pastures, mostly used for sheep and cow grazing. The capital of Kozaria is Doressa, a moderately-sized, modern, city. Darnussia has a mostly Darnussian (Northern German) ethnic community, and the official language of Darnussia is Darnussian.

Narikaton[]

Narikaton is comprised of 2 main islands, divided into 3 regions. Though the entire island group is named Narikaton, and natives of all islands proudly refer to themselves as 'Nariks', only the northern island is officially named Narikaton. The northern island, Narikaton, is very mountainous, has many volcanoes, and is the home to the Capital of Narikaton and Darnussia, Merenburg. It also has a few small forests on the coasts, and the beaches of Narikaton are characterized by giant limestone cliffs. The southern island, often referred to in Narik as 'Zeeland', is split into two regions. Nihaton, to the east, and Clenon, to the west. Nihaton, the eastern, northern, region, is mostly flat, and has many large pastures. Clenon, the western, southern, region, has a large volcano in the center of the region, and has a similar makeup as Nihaton. The two largest islands, Narikaton and Zeeland, were formed by volcano eruptions. The Narikaton islands have a mostly Narik (Dutch) ethnic community, and the official language of Narikaton is Narik.

The Geron Islands[]

The Geron Islands are an island group east of Narikaton and Zeeland, and west of the Darnussia regions. The Geron Islands are part of no Regio, and they are also not their own Regio, therefore making the island group unincorporated, although it does have a capital. It has 4 islands in the group. The island group's capital is Eilakhoven, located on the Wojkzee island, a south-east island in the island group. Each of the island's names are Wojkzee Island, the island with the capital, Jorgen Island, a very small island on the south-west end of the island group, Neelte Island, a medium-sized island located on the center-western end of the island group, and Kikeweg Island, the largest island, located on the northern end of the island group. All of the islands share a similar topography, with large grassy expanses and a few small mountains at the middle of the island. The islands have a mostly Narik (Dutch) ethnic community, although there are a fair number of Hovians and Darnussians residing on the islands. The island's official language is Narik (Dutch).

Culture[]

Narikaton Island (Narikaton Regio)[]

Narikaton Island of the Narikaton regio has a very rich culture. The main ethnic group is Narik (Dutch), so many Narikatonian Islanders have at least one boat, and Narikaton has a long seafaring tradition. Narikaton is known for it's very interesting food choices, such as ground bear bone mixed with apple juice and lettuce wraps with baked oranges to name a few.

Alkavon (Darnussia Regio)[]

The Alkavon region of the Darnussia regio has a mainly Darnussian (Northern German) culture, and the main language is Darnussian. Alkavon has a very homogenous community, and roughly 90% of the population is Darnussian. A popular food in Alkavon is smoked sourdough bread with mashed salmon eggs mixed with orange juice soaked into the bread. One major festival in Alkavon is the Käper Festival, a festival that celebrates music, food, and culture.

Geron Islands (Geron Islands Territory)[]

The Geron Islands territory, located in the Sooletst Sea, near the mainland and Narikaton & Zeeland islands, has a very diverse culture, and it is known for its interesting music style, called Gerop music. Gerop music has many synthesizers in it, and usually has a very catchy beat to it. The Geron Islands do not really have their own food style, but very good music. The Geron Islands had a very isolated community for a while, but about a few hundred years ago, Narik explorers came across the island group, and the most of the native residents moved out. Today, the Geron Islands have a mostly Narik community, but there is quite a few Darnussians there as well.

Government and politics[]

Federal Level[]

The Federal Level of government consists of the Cabinet as the executive and the Chamber of Representatives as the legislative branch. It is the overarching government of the country and has responsibilities such as maintaining the armed forces, conducting foreign policy, conducting monetary policy and more.

Regional Level[]

The country is divided into two regions, the Narik Region and the Darnussian Region. Both hold extensive autonomy and have their own parliament, government and laws when it comes to most domestic matters. Things like education, trade and economy are a joint responsibility between federal and regional governments while most other matters are the responsibility of the regional governments only.

Political System[]

Federal level[]

The Federal level consists of the federal government (led by the Cabinet), the federal parliament and its various agencies and other institutions. The federal government leads the federal level, which in turn is led by the cabinet.

Head of Government (Minister-president)[]

The Minister-president is the Head of Government and prime figure in government. He or she leads the cabinet, directs foreign and domestic policy, leads the armed forces, sits on the Federal Security Council, makes important executive decisions and directs intelligence agencies. The Minister-president is appointed and confirmed by the parliament and needs to keep its confidence there in order to keep his or her position. It is the most senior official in government.

The Cabinet[]

The cabinet is put forth by the Minister-president and confirmed by the parliament. The Cabinet consists of all the secretaries of the different ministries, which varies depending on each government. Members in cabinet have one vote in the cabinet on important government matters with simple majorities making important decisions. The Minister-president may dismiss or fire cabinet members if they break government confidence or policy, but the Legislative Assembly has the power to overrule this action with a majority vote. Every secretary in the cabinet holds executive authorities over the matter they are secretary for in their ministry.

Chamber of Representatives[]

The Chamber of Representatives is the unicameral parliament of Narikaton and Darnussia and is the prime decisionmaking body of the country. The government needs the confidence of the chamber in order to function properly.

Federal Security Districts[]

The Federal Security Districts are five districts created to better coordinate security efforts between layers of government and advise the public on what to do in crisis situations. The FSD's are led by a Governing Board and Governing Director, both elected every 5 years in a direct election. The FSD's hold little real authority, but have a important prevention and coordinating role. They advise the public through a colour graded warning system and coordinate efforts between federal and local authorities. They are elected as a means to create a transparent system and increase population trust in it.

Federal Security Council[]

The Federal Security Council is a body consisting of the most senior members of the military, intelligence agencies and government. It often includes between 10 and 12 members at any time and is convened during important security situations. It is convened by its chair, and once convened makes important and final decisions on security operations of all kinds, from police to military action. It is chaired by the Minister-president who holds veto and push through powers. Every member holds one vote with simple majorities needed for a decision. With a tie, the Minister-president holds the final say.

Ethnicities and Languages[]

The first government of the Realm has made it top priority to rewrite the cultural history of the nation and increase funding for national culture projects. Still, the past thallerist regime has left its marks on the culture of Narikaton and Darnussia. It is de-facto an almost homogenous cultural community.

Religions[]

Narikaton and Darnussia has a relatively Christian society. Many of the other religious groups came to Narikaton and Darnussia through immigration and traveling.
