Episcopalianism in Greater Hulstria

From Particracy Wiki

Episcopalianism in Greater Hulstria is well established in the country and counts a significant portion of the population as members of their flock. However, Episcopalianism is heavily divided internally between three major denominations - the Episcopal Church of Greater Hulstria being the largest, the Traditional Episcopal Church next, and last the Gishoton Episcopal Church.

[edit] Colonialism

The first public mention of Episcopalianism in the area that is now called Greater Hulstria was made in a land grant in the Luthori colony of Mitrania. The Governor of Mitrania issued a land grant in Graaffsberg to a Dorvik Episcopal reverend in 1513. In the declaration found only a few decades ago, the Governor stated:

"It shall be hereby known and made public that on this day, the 31 of May in the year of our Lord 1513, in the name of His Imperial Majesty of the Luthori Empire, that the Right Reverend William Townsend, citizen of Dorvik, is granted a parcel of 4 acres of land in Graaffsberg, Mitrania for the purpose of establishing a church of the Episcopal persuasion."

The church, which came to be known as Saint Mark's Church, was the first Episcopal church in Greater Hulstria and perhaps all of Dovani. It was followed by several Episcopal churches being built all over Greater Hulstria, but primarily concentrated in Mitrania. At this time, the Episcopal churches of Greater Hulstria was simply referred to as the "Episcopal Church in {insert colony name}" and lacked any form of common leadership.

In 1547 Mitrania, the colony with by far the largest Episcopalian population, founded the Episcopal Church of Mitrania. This new church federated all of the Episcopal churches in Mitrania under a central authority in Graaffsberg, the new Archbishop of Graaffsberg. The church gradually entrenched itself in Mitrania and spread to the other Luthori colonies.
