Below is a brief summary of the political career of each leader of the National Coalition Party of Rutania as it appears in the Rutanian Hansard.

Party Leaders[]

Adam Davey Pollard[]

Adam Pollard Ed Davey

Adam Pollard was a management consultant with McHale Stearn prior to his entry into politics. He became disillusioned with politics in the aftermath of the double general elections of 4289. He attempted to portray himself and his party as a centrist alternative to the establishment parties. As leader, he also became the party’s first spokesman for Finance.

The November 4293 elections proved to be a massive success for the party. Pollard saw the National Coalition Party win the second largest number of seats in the House. Consequently, he attempted to form a government with the Whig and Conservative parties. After five months of negotiations, Pollard took office as Rutania’s Prime Minister.

Pollard's tenure as Prime Minister was marred by internal strife within his party and coalition partners. The November 4297 elections proved to be a disaster for the government. Pollard immediately announced his intention to stand down as Prime Minister and Party Leader. As the acting Prime Minister and party leader, Pollard oversaw the election of his successor.

After Pollard stepped down as Prime Minister, he was named to the NCP front bench as the party’s spokesman for the Environment and Tourism. However, he stepped down from his post after just under two years, as part of a massive reshuffle as initiated by Luke Curtis. He retired from the House of Representatives at the next election. He briefly considered reentering politics in 4306 in order to contest the Rutanian presidency but he withdrew his name from consideration after Piers Paulus announced his intention to seek the party’s nomination.

Following Adam Pollard’s resignation, Curtis was narrowly elected leader over Jack Goldie. Curtis was viewed as a compromise candidate.

Curtis resigned as leader following the 4301 general elections in which the party lost nearly half its seats in the House. Under Richard Gillard and Olivia Woodward, Curtis sat on the backbenches.

Richard Anthony Gillard[]

Richard Gillard Philip Hammond

Richard Gillard spent much of his career as a consultant for Fallon Castlemead. He had many business interests including house building and property, manufacturing, healthcare, and oil and gas. He served as a director prior to his election to the House of Representatives in 4293.

Because of his extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, Adam Pollard immediately asked Gillard to serve as the party’s first spokesman for the Environment and Tourism. However, environmentalists protested his selection. After the National Coalition Party formed government, Gillard was named to Cabinet as Minister for the Environment and Tourism. His appointment proved highly controversial both inside and outside the party.

He was viewed by skeptics more favorably after he came out against the Ecological Reform Act in June 4295. With Gillard's help, the House ultimately rejected the bill by a vote of 381-249.

Following the government’s defeat in 4297, Gillard successfully stood for the party’s Deputy Leadership. After Luke Curtis resigned as leader in 4301, Gillard was elevated to the leadership as the party's interim leader. He led the party through the government coalition negotiations.

After it became clear that it would not be possible to form a government, Gillard supported the Whig Party's Motion of No Confidence against the government of President Henry Stratton. Gillard led the party through the snap elections of November 4302.

Gillard resigned as interim leader after the House was finally able to form a government in 4304.

Olivia Helena Woodward[]

Olivia Woodward Mary Creagh

Prior to entering politics, Olivia Woodward, née West, lectured in entrepreneurship at the Wakefield School of Management. She was elected to the House in November 4293 and sat on the Environment and Tourism and Infrastructure and Transport committees.

In 4304, Woodward stood as a candidate for the leadership. She was the only woman in the contest and benefited from the caucus’ desire to change the direction of the party. She placed behind Rab Montgomery on the first and second ballot but received Jack Goldie’s support following his elimination. His support proved crucial and Woodward and Montgomery tied on the third ballot. In a revote, Montgomery switched his vote to Woodward and she was duly elected by a vote of 19-17.

Despite reforming the party internally, the 4306 elections were a massive disappointment for Woodward. The party lost a seat in the House but was able to enter government.

The 4310 elections proved even worse for the party. While fighting breast cancer, Woodward successfully dissolved the National Coalition Party and helped found the Democratic Alliance.

While at SPT, Ivey became known for working primarily with financial services companies. After leaving the law for the banking world, he joined Galweather and Hobart, where he was Head of Anti-Money Laundering and Sanctions for the retail banking division.

Ivey immediately joined Adam Pollard’s leadership team following the formation of the National Coalition Party. He served as Pollard’s deputy as well as the party’s Defence and Justice spokesman. After the 4293 elections, Ivey resigned as the party’s Justice spokesman, thus denying him the opportunity to sit in cabinet.

Following Adam Pollard’s resignation, Ivey stepped down as Deputy Leader. He was appointed by Pollard’s successor, Luke Curtis, as the party’s spokesman for Science and Technology. He returned to the Justice brief as part of a massive reshuffle in 4300.

Ivey was shockingly defeated for reelection in the snap poll of November 4302.

Paulus ran for the deputy leadership again in 4304 and was narrowly defeated by Peter Abigail on the final ballot.

In 4306, Olivia Woodward announced that the party would contest the Rutanian presidency. Paulus immediately became the frontrunner for the party’s nomination and was eventually selected unopposed. He ultimately placed last and won just over 5% of the vote. Immediately after the election, Paulus was named to cabinet as Minister for Finance.

Paulus achieved major success when his budget proposal of January 4309 was passed by the House by a vote of 422-0.

Lucy Peters began her career as an actress. She studied drama and later gained a Master of Arts degree in screenwriting. Her most notable role was that of Isobel Tetley-Picksergill on the popular drama “Savident.” She played Isobel for three seasons.

While working as an actress, she became well known for her political advocacy. She reached out to Adam Pollard to campaign against the closure of libraries in her community. Pollard convinced Peters to stand for the House. Peters was immediately selected as the party’s spokesman for Education and Culture. She was also part of the party’s team during coalition negotiations. Following the successful conclusion of coalition talks, Peters was appointed Minister for Education and Culture.

Peters came under significant scrutiny following the proposal of the Cultural Recognition Act in June 4295. Peters was staunchly opposed to the legislation and ultimately decided that the National Coalition Party would abstain from the vote unless the party's votes were needed to pass the bill. The opposition Civic Republican League called for her resignation but the bill was ultimately passed by a vote of 269-232. 249 members of the House abstained.

Following the government’s defeat in 4297, Peters unsuccessfully stood for the party’s Deputy Leadership. However, she was asked by Luke Curtis to remain in the Education and Culture brief. After Pollard formed government, Quand was named Minister for Justice.

He resigned from cabinet following the government’s defeat in the aftermath of the November 4297 elections. He stepped down from his post as part of a massive reshuffle as initiated by Luke Curtis.

As Party President, Carlisle was responsible for the party’s general election campaign. The 4297 elections were disastrous and some anticipated that Carlisle would not take his seat in the House. However, he ultimately stood for the leadership and placed third. His support helped propel Luke Curtis to victory over Jack Goldie. To thank him for his support, Curtis selected Carlisle as the party’s new Whip.

Carlisle's political career ended in 4301 following his shock defeat in that year's general election.

Her tenure as whip is generally regarded positively. In 4298, Catto stood unsuccessfully for the deputy leadership. Nonetheless, Luke Curtis selected her to serve as Party President. She resigned from the role following the party's disastrous general election result in 4301. However, she was asked by Richard Gillard to serve as the party's spokesman for Environment and Tourism. In 4304, Goldie again contested the leadership. He placed third, behind Olivia Woodward and Rab Montgomery. Woodward named him Party President. Pollard gave Hewitt immense power over the party’s internal structure. She was the party’s first Vice President and also oversaw a wide array of portfolios, including: Infrastructure and Transport, Education and Culture, Science and Technology, Food and Agriculture, and Environment and Tourism. After she took her seat in the House, she resigned most of these positions and only retained the party vice presidency and the Infrastructure brief.
