History[]
The Urban Party of Kirlawa was founded by a group of college kids who wanted to make a difference in their community and Kirlawa as a whole.
Party Structure[]
Party Factions[]
The party is split into three ideological factions, with each faction represented by a speaker to represent them and act as their candidate for the Leadership. The three factions are:
Progressives: The Progressives tend to advocate a relatively centrist economic and left-wing social agenda. Unifying issues among the progressives are opposition to economic and social conservatism, opposition to heavy corporate influence in government and support for universal health care. The Progressives have been the party's largest faction since 2810 and are led by Loretta Moone.
Red-Dog Coalition: The Red-Dog Coalition is the party's newest faction and only conservative faction. They are generally supporters of gun rights, anti-immigration, pro-death penalty and are pro-life. On economic issues, they tend to be pro-business and favor limiting public welfare spending. They are led by former party leader Linda Bowerman.
Old-Guard Liberals: The Old-Guard Liberals are the oldest and smallest faction in the party. Old-Guard Liberals tend to be more libertarian in nature and believe in personal liberty, economic liberty, limited government and social responsibility. They are led by party leader Edgar Blakely.
Leadership[]
The party's leadership structure is divided up into 5 separate leadership positions which have certain responsibilities that pertain to the operation of the party. The Leader is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the party and is the highest ranking official within the party. The Chairman is responsible for coordinating all legislative and provincial affairs and selecting party leadership for both chambers in the Parliament. The National Finance Committee is responsible for the party's finances and the the Election Committee is responsible for overseeing the party's election and media affairs. The Office of Regional Affairs will be responsible for selecting the provincial captains to run the party's regional operations for all 5 provinces.
Party leadership has always been chosen by the party officials by way of secret vote, but in 2970 that changed. Now, the party leader, will have the power to select the people he/she wants for party leadership. Leaders will be selected by the 500 member Party Congress when a Leadership Conference is called. Conferences are called if there if there is either a vacancy or if more than 2/3 of party officials request it.
