The government and politics of Tropica takes place within the framework of a federal parliamentary monarchy. The current political system was the result of a new codified constitution drawn up in the wake of the collapse of the Tropican National Party. The system of government is heavily influenced by traditional Luthorian government due the nation's historic colonisation of Tropica.

History[]

For several hundred years, Tropica was controlled by various colonial governments but eventually it was granted independence.

Constitution[]

For a significant period of time, Tropica has no formal written constitution. When it was granted independence, sovereign power was handed over from the government of Luthori to the Tropican legislature (at the time, this was the Tropican Assembly). As a result, academics often referred to the nation as having an 'uncodified constitution'.

Following the collapse of the Tropican National Party, various opposition forces came together to support the election of a citizen's constitutional assembly. The current Parliament continue to govern in the meantime but the eventual outcome was the adoption of the 4635 Constition, which emphasised the role of traditional systems of government and approved a federal structure for the country.

Government[]

Tropican government is conducted using a cabinet system.

Legislature[]

The national legislature in Tropica is the bicameral Parliament of Tropica. The upper house, the National Assembly is popularly elected, while the lower house is based on regional politics.

Elections[]

Parliamentary elections are held every five years.
