The government and politics of Vanuku exists within the framework of a parliamentary representative democracy and a constitutional monarchy.

Monarchy[]

The role of the Vanukean monarchy in the operation of government varies greatly between monarchs and governments. All cabinet proposals are brought before the reigning monarch, who must approve them. In modern times, the monarch will always approve a cabinet proposal. For example, recent monarchs have approved cabinets composed of anti-monarchist individuals.

Government[]

The government of Vanuku is officially known as 'His Gracious Majesty's Government' but is commonly referred to as the 'Vanukean government'. It's led by the Prefect of the Council, who appoints and chairs the rest of the cabinet. The cabinet is accountable to the Grand Council, Vanuku's legislative branch as well as to the sovereign, at present King Temrkai I.

Cabinet[]

The cabinet is the collective decision-making body of the government of Vanuku and is composed of the Prefect of the Council and twelve other senior ministers, each allocated an area of public policy to oversee and coordinate. Cabinet proposals must be approved by a majority of the Grand Council and by the monarch. By convention, members of the cabinet are members of the Grand Council too however this is not technically necessary.

At present, the monarchy is represented in political affairs by an elected ruler, who engages with the cabinet in order to ensure the views of the King are considered.

Agencies[]

The government has, both on national and federal level, several agencies it uses for various purposes.

  • Imperial Security Service - Keizerlijke Veiligheidsdienst
  • Imperial Office for Employment - Keizerlijke Instantie voor Werkgelegenheid
  • Federal Guard - Federale Garde
  • Imperial Financial Guard - Keizerlijke Financiele Garde
