The Grand Chancellor of the Vanukuian Reich (Vanukeaans: Grootkanselier van het Vanukuaanse Rijk) is both the head of state and the head of the Vanukuian cabinet. The Grand Chancellor is the supreme leader of all that is Vanukuian, the government, the armed forces and every citizen of Vanuku. The Grand Chancellor is appointed by the Grand Council of the Vanukuian Reich. Parties can put forward candidates and the Council will then vote over who will be the Grand Chancellor. In theory a Grand Chancellor can hold his seat for eternity as there is no maximum length for the Grand Chancellor's term. A party can put forward the same candidate every election.
Election[]
The Grand Chancellor is elected after a new coalition takes power. After elections any party can put forward a candidate for the position of Grand Chancellor, within the Grand Council there will be a vote about this. In reality this means that the largest party's candidate wins unless several other parties cooperate and support each other's candidate. This however, rarely occurs. In the Code of Vanuku, the laws of the nation, there are several rules for candidates. The candidate must be a Vanukuian citizen, it must be part of a officially recognized party and he or she must be over 30 years old.
Duty and Powers[]
The main job of the Grand Chancellor is to run the nation, he does this together with his cabinet. The Grand Chancellor guides all ministers and has to approve every motion or act that is passed through the Grand Council. The Grand Chancellor is also the commander of the armed forces. And last but not least, he or she also represents the nation. This basically makes the Grand Chancellor an elected dictator, which fits perfectly within the Fascist Republic that Vanuku is.
Residence[]
Throughout his term the Grand Chancellor lives in the Chancellor's Residence of the Reich, a large mansion located in the green centre of Wiel. The Grand Chancellor lives here with his or her family but can also welcome important guests here. Although usually that is done within the Governmental Palace of the Reich where the Grand Council, ministries and other important government departments have their headquarters.
