The Human Rights Foundation's logo, the flame representing hope and the barbed wire showing oppresion

The Human Rights Foundation is an international non-governmental organisation that advocates for human rights and personal freedoms. Historically headquartered in Kalistan, the organisation seeks to "advance the causes of justice, freedom, truth and dignity". Across the world, the organisation has been prominent in various campaigns for human rights, often interacting with national governments and other international organisations.

During its history, the HRF has been controversial. In the early years after its foundation, the creation of "blacklist" of countries that supported capital punishment attracted criticism from politicians from several countries. Various attempts made to categorise countries by their protection of human rights have been controversial too.

History[]

The Human Rights Foundation was founded in December 4131 by Sophia Conti. Prior to forming the organisation, Conti was a Kalistani politician best known for her involvement in the Saridan slavery stand-off. In her words, the organisation was designed to "create an international movement in favour of individual freedoms and rights". At the time of its foundation, the HRF identified several central concerns:

  • the right to a fair trial
  • freedom of thought, expression and association
  • an end to capital punishment
  • equality between men and women
  • banning torture
  • limiting the supply of arms
  • aiding refugees and displaced persons

Among the first actions of the HRF after its foundation was the creation of an international "blacklist" of countries that employed capital punishment. Conti directed fierce criticism towards these countries, especially global powers Vanuku and Trigunia. In her words, the death penalty represented "the wilful slaughter of [their] own citizens".

After almost seventeen years leading the HRF, Conti stepped down in May 4148. Loïc Jauffret replaced her as the leader of the organisation. During his tenure, he sought to shift the international reputation of the Human Rights Foundation by focusing attention on issues aside from capital punishment. Early in his tenure, he oversaw the publication of a report highlighting countries where women faced legal employment discrimination.

Organisation[]

Since its formation in 4131, the Human Rights Foundation has been headquartered in Kaliburg, Kalistan. Over the years, its operation has expanded and shrunk at various points owing to international conditions. At present, the organisation has members in over a dozen countries and has professional offices in Beiteynu, Hutori, Lourenne, Luthori and Tropica among other locations.
