Jose Panqaraña is a politician and activist in the nation of Davostan. Founder of the Movimiento Indígena Popular, Panqaraña has long been known as a farmworkers' rights activist and advocate of indigenous socialism.

[edit] Early Life

Panqaraña was born to Davohuac parents Saez and Maria in a small village in Tarekha province. His family were low-class sharecroppers growing coca and potatoes, and his father was killed during a strike when Jose was only 14. As a teenager, the young farmer became interested in political activism, joining a socialist organization and gaining a reputation as a skilled organizer. He remained a farmer after his school career ended.

[edit] Political Life

Panqaraña ran for low-level offices in his local area on several occasions, gaining a variety of minor positions in government. He continued his work as a labor activist and indigenous rights organizer the entire time, joining a group of more radical friends in the 2350s. In 2360, he decided to form a new political movement that would champion indigenous rights and land reform: the MIP.
