Introduction[]

The Parti National de la Jeunesse Gauche (English: National Party of Left Youth, known as "les Jaunes," for their official party color) was founded during the Rildanorian political crisis of 4068, which saw the formation of many new parties in response to growing frustration with political stagnation under the single-party rule of the Parti Nationaliste. The PNJG was formed by leaders of the youth movement which started in the island canton of Meroix, before reaching its apogee during a series of street demonstrations in the capital Labonne. Youth leaders capitalized on the media attention and high turnout during the demonstrations to rally leftist youth around a new party that would speak for a new generation.

History (4068–Present)[]

During the street demonstrations that erupted across Rildanor in the spring of 4068, Stencil Carandache was a young resident physician at Université de Saint-Antoine, in Meroix Canton. Carandache became involved in the student strike at the Université, and he quickly rose to a position of prominence within the student strike movement there. The students dubbed themselves Les Jeunesse Gauche and tied yellow scarves around their upper arm to identify each other during clashes with the police.

Following the strike, Carandache resigned from his residency program and switched to political organizing full time. He and several other leaders of the student strike, including Adeline Dubois, an adjunct faculty member at the Université, and Guy Lecanrill, whose efforts to organize workers in Meroix's tourist industry had involved him in the political movement, formed the Parti National de la Jeunesse Gauche. In reference to the yellow armbands of the student protests, the PNJG was known as les Jaunes by their supporters.

By the end of 4068, the party had spread throughout Rildanor and had relocated its headquarters to Labonne. Strong local organizations sprung up in Tiralouse, Morbanaque, and Sirdour, cantons where PNJG was able to coordinate with other leftist parties such as the Sans-Culottes. The PNJG continued organizing throughout 4069, and in the elections of March 4070 was voted into office in seven of the 75 constituencies of the Assemblée nationale.
