The Parti progressiste-conservateur is a progressive conservative in Rildanor. It was founded in 2713 by political moderates (conservatives by definition) who saw that Rildanor needed a party that was for the federal parliamentary constitutional monarchy state system and a government that supported the ideas of Toryism.
[edit] Beliefs and Principles
The Parti progressiste-conservateur believes in the four points of Conservatism as laid out by Edmund Burke, the founder of modern Conservatism:
- the Role of tradition
- the Organic nature of society
- Gradual change
- Society cannot be radically altered
As a Tory Party, the Parti progressiste-conservateur was founded on the principle of loyalty to the Crown and the party strongly believes in the Three Principles of the People, which is the basis for our platform and our policies:
- The People's Relation/Connection: To promote our civic-nationalism (as opposed to ethnic-nationalism or ethnic-centrism)
- The People's Power: To promote democracy and good government
- The People's Welfare/Livelihood: To promote the well-being, freedoms, and liberties of the people, and to protect the natural rights of the citizen
[edit] History
The Parti progressiste-conservateur was founded in 2713 by a group of Rildoriens led by Jean Alexandre Mac Dhomhnuill, a poor lawyer with ancient Royal lineage and a Scot by birth. The leading members of this group were Jean Alexandre Mac Dhomhnuill – leader of the Tories du Monackback, Georges Cartier – leader of the Union Nationale du Meriath, and Joseph Huard – leader of the Action démocratique du Tirali. These men felt that there were no parties at the national level that best suited their political views: The Aristocrats, while being a conservative party, favoured the upper class; and the Democrats (formerly the Liberal-Democrats) who were too socially liberal for their liking. As a result, the Parti progressiste-conservateur was born.
The Parti progressiste-conservateur won its first 4 Sénat seats three years after the establishment of the party. Although the goal of winning seats was successfully accomplished, the leaders Mac Dhomhnuill, Cartier, and Huard all failed to win seats in their own ridings as all 4 seats won were in the cantons of Nirald and Zirdor. Although they had originally decided to remain as leaders of the party, they were forced to resign when the elected Sénat party members refused to give up their seats for them.
For the next few years, the party lacked a permanent leader, switching from interim leader to interim leader, even though the party had electoral successes. The long search for a permanent leader ended when the party asked Jean Tóraidhe to lead the Tories. Under Tóraidhe, the Tories have been serving in Government, either though a coalition or majority.
